4 Questions About Using Local Movers

Do you have a move scheduled for the near future? Are you considering using local movers? If so, you likely have a few questions about their services.

What Is Full Service Moving?

If you see a company offering full service moving, this means that they handle everything for you from start to finish. Full-service movers will pack up your belongings, load them on the truck, move them into your new place, and unbox items so that they are put away. You will not have to lift a finger if you do not want to.

Should You Get An In-Person Moving Estimate?

Moving estimates should always be free, but there are multiple ways to get an estimate. A moving company can give you a general estimate based on the size of your home, or come by your current place to provide an in-person estimate. In general, the in-person estimate will always be more accurate, since the movers will be able to see what you have and not guess at what they'll be moving.

However, know that a moving estimate is just an estimate. It is not a guarantee of what the final cost will be. That's because movers work for an hourly rate, and your final bill is based on how long it takes them to get the job done.

When Do You Pay Your Movers?

Know that a trusted moving company is not going to request the full cost of the move in advance. That said, it is common to ask for a small deposit to guarantee that your moving date is reserved. Any mover that asks for the full cost of the move up front should be a big red flag, especially since it is impossible to know exactly what the move will cost before the job is completed.

How Much Time Is Needed To Book Local Movers?

It's always best to book your local movers as soon as possible. There are times that often get booked quickly, such as weekends and the first of the month when leases tend to start and end. Make sure you book as early as possible to get your preferred moving date. If you are moving between apartments and your leases begin and end on the same day with no overlap, then getting the exact day you need is crucial.
