If your home uses a water well pump and it is getting older, there are many signs that may indicate it is time to have it replaced. Keep reading so you can have the problem taken care of sooner.

Water Pressure Problems

If you are noticing changes in the water pressure inside your home this can be due to many things. For example, there may be corrosion in the pipes or bad clogs. You may have plumbing leaks you are not aware of or problems with the water supply line.

Another thing that can cause water pressure problems is your water pump. There may be a problem with the pressure switch, which can easily be taken care of by a water well pump contractor. There also may be a problem with the diaphragm or air bladder not providing the right amount of pressure, which can also be repaired.

Well pumps have an electric motor and if the motor goes bad there will be a change in your water pressure. Repairing or replacing the motor is expensive so it would be best to replace the entire water pump. This is especially true if your water well pump is older.

Noisy Water Well Pump

If you are hearing weird noises coming from the water well pump this is a sign of problems. In most cases this is caused by the water well leaking air. This will result in hearing a constant clicking sound. This sound comes from the pressure switch. If you are hearing a humming sound your water well pump may be out of water. The pump foot valve may be leaking and losing water, which will result in this sound.

All these things will cause the motor to work harder to keep the water well pump running. Over time, this will cause the motor to go completely out and will have to be repaired or the water well pump replaced.

Changes in Water Quality

If you notice changes in your water quality, this may be due to a problem with the water well pump. For example, the well shaft may be damaged or there may be damage to the drop pipe or pump itself.

If you notice your water has a weird odor or is colored instead of clear, there is likely surface water has leaked inside the water well pump, which means the well pump has damage. Get your water tested to determine if it has changed in quality. If so, hire a water well pump contractor to check the well pump to determine if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

The water well pump contractor can give you more information on things to watch out for to make sure you get your water well pump replaced in time.
