Tips For Storing A Large Flat-screen TV
Large flat-screen televisions have become the standard in most homes. While more enjoyable to use, they can also be more of a challenge if you need to store them. The following tips can help you store the TV properly so that it doesn't suffer any damage and to ensure that it continues to work properly once you bring it back home.
Tip #1: Keep the original box
It's best to use the original box, along with the packing materials that it came with, for storage. This configuration will lead to the least chance of damage or trauma. If you no longer have the box or packing materials, contact an electronics store that sells your model of TV to see if they can save you a box and materials.
Tip #2: Pack it properly
Packing it up is as simple as using the original foam inserts if you have the box; otherwise, you will need to be more creative. Begin by placing a sheet of bubble wrap or anti-static foam over the screen. Cover this with a piece of stiff cardboard the same size as the front of the television. Place a second foam sheet or bubble wrap piece over the back, and then wrap tape around the TV to hold these layers of packing in place. Finally, line the bottom of a large heavy-duty box with a layer of bubble wrap, slide in the TV, and top with another layer of bubble wrap. This way, the corners and edges of the TV are protected.
Tip #3: Use the right storage unit
Don't store the television in any storage unit – make sure you opt for an interior climate-controlled unit. Climate control will protect the sensitive electronics of your TV from extreme temperatures and humidity. Interior units tend to be more secure. Further, make sure that the facility you choose has adequate security features, including controlled entrance and cameras.
Tip #4: Store it properly
Once in the storage unit, keep the TV upright so stress isn't placed on the rear or screen of the unit. Upright storage also prevents anything from being set upon it. It's a good idea to put it on top of a pallet or table instead of directly on the floor. If flooding or moisture seep does occur, this prevents the television from getting wet.
